I went to experience mono printing during my project. It’s a process where patterns are drawn on paper, different colours are engraved in large areas with an engraving knife, and then stamped onto a thin iron plate with a specific ink, and then placed on a machine to be pressed. Different patterns could be re-pasted back on with pieces of paper that had been carved off and continued in different colours, or even when the printing was finished, a very thin ink was left on the table, the paper was placed on top of it, and the pattern was printed on it with a pencil drawing. I went to a screen printing studio afterwards but didn’t get to experience the process myself, but I would like to be able to print my illustrations as posters using screen printing afterwards.

Tutorial

I intended to have a scent interaction with the audience during the runway show, so I used the ancient Chinese method of making incense and made the Goose and Pear Tent of Fragrance scented pills. I used pears as the raw material, filled with ground incense wood and sandalwood, steamed in a steamer, then removed the pear skin, then pounded into mud, dried and sifted, ground into powder and then added to the honey boiled into the glue and finally rolled into a scented pellet.

I sprayed Garden of the Nile onto printed illustrations to make a diffuser sheet. The reason for using this perfume is because the bottle is also green, the same shade as my illustration, and it also matches the dress I’m going to wear on the catwalk.

Tutorial Feedback

I started out with the intention of stringing the pills on a charm, but Cing-li said I could put the pills in a censer and hold them in my hand to let their scent out for others to smell, so I improved on going that way later.
